So here was my thinking, if I added one more power bar to the already full power bar I currently had I could then plug in my multi-port charger and get some much-needed battery life into my phone, computer, tablet and smartwatch ( not to mention chargeable toothbrush) just one little plugin and – Pfft/snap – dang it! Blew a breaker again.

That was not my first time hearing the resounding pop of a breaker and I’ll bet you can well imagine the sound yourself. That in a nutshell is why we are talking about service upgrades. I mentioned that illustration because many of us are living in houses where the image of all those tablets, phones and computers jammed together on one outlet fighting for power is a pretty good example of what is happening in our homes

Think of all the fixtures we have; pot lights, puck lights, lamps, sconces, bedside lights, ceiling fans. Add in the major appliances like dryers, dishwashers, fridges, electric stoves and EV chargers. Anyone else feeling that summer heat? Time to add an air conditioner. Getting too cold? Got to get the furnace going, many of which are electric nowadays. Wow, that all sounds a bit stressful. Time for some RNR. I’m thinking a hot tub. Maybe a little outdoor music and a minibar. Now we’re talking! Need a towel after that soak, maybe a warmed towel? Well guess what we have here…

You get the picture. Between our needs, wants and all the assortment in between we are needing a lot of power! Our parents and grandparents were building homes with 100 amp panels thinking they would never run out of power but as with so many areas of progress our demand is vastly outpacing the supply.

Thankfully there is a solution to our breaker-busting issues. It is a service upgrade. The process of taking out that old 100 amp panel and replacing it with a shiny new 200 amp panel complete with a host of new circuits so you can add that hot tub, kitchen lighting or heated towel warmers without ever having to go back to the garage to reset another breaker.

A preliminary site visit is required to determine what kind of service upgrade is best for your home. The 200 amp service upgrade comes in several forms:

  • An underground service where the power is distributed from a localized transformer box to your home via an underground conduit.
  •  A basic overhead upgrade where the power is distributed from a BC Hydro maintained pole and sent to your home via a cable from the pole-mounted transformer to the mast in your home.
  • A DIP service. In this version the service traverses from the Hydro pole-mounted transformer to a private pole stationed on the homeowner’s property; it then dips down underground to the house.

Any of these installation methods arrive at the same fantastic end; namely giving you more POWER!

We distribute all of that power with a brand new 200 amp Eaton panel and associated breakers. Once completed you will have a properly laid out, prominently labelled 200 service panel which will serve you and your family well for years to come.

A brief note worth mentioning:

It does happen that during the service upgrade, due to the removal of the old panel, installation of the new one and connection of all the existing wiring in your home that there is some drywall or siding repair required. While this is not the case for every job its occurrence can be problematic. Thankfully we have a trusted list of contractors and tradespeople we can put you in contact with who will be able to resolve these issues.

So there you have it. The solution to your evermore crowded panel is only a phone call away. We look forward to working with you!
